The role of plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) from the genus Bacillus in olive (Olea europaea) diseases control

AvanzaBio has participated in a collaborative study with Corteva that has demonstrated that PGPR, in this case of the Bacillus genus, could constitute this innovative and sustainable strategy for disease management and growth promotion. With various mechanisms of action -ranging from the production of antimicrobial metabolites to the induction of systemic resistance and improved nutrient absorption- these bacteria represent a promising tool in modern agriculture.

Research and development of Bacillus-based bioinoculants could be key to reducing dependence on chemical pesticides and improving the sustainability of olive cultivation worldwide. However, further research is needed to better understand the factors that affect the efficacy of PGPR and optimize their application under different growing conditions.
