NEIKER’s two years of research in collaboration with Biobizz y AvanzaBio, two companies producing organic fertilizers and biostimulants in the Basque Country, have borne fruit.

A study that seeks to pave the way for farmers who want to start with this new productive and sustainable model, a method that replaces the use of mineral fertilizers with organic fertilizers, thus reducing the emission of CO2 into the atmosphere, and demonstrating that change is possible.

The trials have shown an increase in size in all the vegetables grown: “Both lettuce and chard produced in a bioponic system are larger compared to those grown in a hydroponic system with inorganic fertilizers, 20% more for lettuce and 13% more for chard,” says Patrick Riga, project leader and principal investigator of the Plant Production and Protection department at NEIKER.
